Edited the first post with links to all the totally vegetarian restaurants people have recommended. Keep 'em coming!
Aery, what do you think about linking to reviews in the OP too? For example if someone is thinking of going to Loving Hut then my review could be linked for them to read instead of wading through posts?

That was actually going to be my next move, although I was wondering whether to do it in the original post or link them all in the vegetarian directory listing when I get around to doing that. I'll probably just do it here ;)

:) These are my favourite kind of threads. I'd add some from Sheffield but I'm really rubbish at eating at veg*an places. My bf is omni so we try to find omni places with good vegan options so we're both happy.

BUT I can think of some others...

The Porter - in Bath. Vegetarian pub (not all the drink is vegetarian, but they have a vegetarian wine list with vegan options too)
http://www.theporter.co.uk/food.ihtmlThe food is basic but cheap, it seems to vary a lot and I haven't been in a year though. For a few years it was cheap, hearty and tasty - basically great value pub grub. Last time I went it was no where near as good though, in fact it was awful. They tried to go up-market... but you just got bland, smaller portions.

Demuths - in Bath.

The complete opposite! Expensive but delicious, and one of the few proper vegetarian restaurants (as opposed to cafes) making it great for dates/celebrations/treats. Last time I went was a couple of years ago again, but I have heard good things about it since too.

The Riverside Vegetaria - Kingston
http://www.rsveg.plus.com/I like this place, it's quite traditional vegetarian food - nut roasts, curries, etc, but tasty and I REALLY recommend the Masala Dosai, which I have had a lot of! Mains are about £10 which I think is reasonable. I haven't greatly enjoyed their desserts though, but I'd still recommend as their mains are reasonably priced and very tasty, the location is also very nice - right on the side of the river.

The Greenway Cafe - Matlock
http://greenwaycafe.co.uk/food.shtmlThis place is very much what you expect from a vegetarian cafe, quite a laid-back cafe feel. The food was really tasty, MASSIVE portions, cheap and I really enjoyed it. You can order smaller or bigger portions which I really liked, and they gave us hummus and vegetables to snack on while we waited for our meal which was random but nice. My boyfriend said he had the best mushroom soup he's ever tasted also :)

I gotta dash now but I will add a couple more later too..... :)

I went to the riverside vegetaria years ago and it was vile. I havent been back since. Kingston is the closest town-with-things to me so I'm there quite a lot. maybe I'll give it another go if things have improved!

Has anyone been to the 222 Veggie/Vegan restaurant in Kensington? http://www.222veggievegan.com/

I drove past it today, it's not too far from my work. I was thinking of inviting come colleagues there after work but I don't want to take them to a veggie place if the food is bad :/

I've been there, but it's a few years ago now. Anyway, I thought the food was quite decent, one of the better restaurants in my book.

I have been to 222 for dinner a couple of times and I liked the food although it is quite slow service as it is all homemade I think. I have heard the lunch buffet is nice though.

Went back to Demuths in Bath and it was even better than I remembered! I had 3 courses at lunch time for £15 and they were sooooo good, has to be joint best vegan meal I've eaten. One of few vegetarian restaurants I've been to that I have felt like I'm eating in a good quality restaurant rather than a cafe, not that there is anything wrong with a cafe, but sometimes it's nice to be spoilt and eat the kind of food you wouldn't be bothered/couldn't make for yourself. :) Highly recommended.

Went to two new ones last week :)

Milgi, a vegetarian cafe in Cardiff. Pretty good food, amazing cocktails. About half the menu was vegan. Really interesting menu, but very "veg*n", if that makes sense - lots of tofu and unusual vegetables and healthy dishes, probably wouldn't go down too well with a typical omni.

The Global Tribe Cafe in Leeds. Really small, only about 8 tables in a little area above a shop. Absolutely incredible food, everything on the menu is vegan/can be veganised. Lots of gluten free options too, and they also have some raw options for mains and desserts. And lots of vegan cake. Mmmmmm cake. Highly recommended, actually trying to think of reasons to go back to Leeds just to eat there again.
