This approach is sadly effective because most people won't take the time to vet anything he utters. If you listen to his supporters, they parrot all of the half-truths and out-and-out lies he puts forth on a daily basis. Experts predicted that the public would suffer fatigue from all the fronts related to his awful, criminal behavior. I hope they are wrong. If he's not removed from office via the impeachment process, it has to happen at the ballot box.
